The Vindex

Vindex was a prototype I started together with my artist friend — a visual novel with a non-linear storyline, conceived as a “what if” exploration of an alternate branch of history.

Story

The “Ziel” agents have been trained since childhood to carry out dangerous, mostly secret missions. Their genomes were modified specifically to expand their physical potential. The protagonist, Ersel, has always believed in the righteousness of Ziel's cause — until her first real mission shows her what life outside truly is.

There she finds herself standing at a crossroads between two warring organizations: good and evil, duty and the call of the heart.

Gameplay

Dialogue is the core of the experience, but it is far from passive:

  • Ersel carries a set of personal stats that grow depending on the choices you make.
  • Those stats feed back into conversations, opening or closing lines with other characters.
  • The ending depends directly on your inclination along each stat axis — Duty ↔ Morality, Love ↔ Work, Strength ↔ Cunning, and more.

Visuals

The first thing that catches the eye is the muted palette. During conversations characters move, and a custom plugin syncs their mouth animation to the voice actors' speech patterns — creating real competition for the static portraits used in other visual novels.

A story where your moral leanings aren't just flavour — they are the mechanics that decide the ending.
