Samurai Slash
A small rhythm-game prototype I built to test the combination of the Action and Rhythm genres — fast, musical, and unforgiving.
Gameplay
You play a samurai cutting down enemies that appear to the beat of the music, arriving from the left and right.
- Strike on the beat to defeat incoming enemies on either side.
- Sometimes arrows appear instead of enemies — you must dodge these, attacking won't help.
- Reading the difference between “attack” and “dodge” cues at tempo is the core skill.
Planned Expansion
The prototype was designed to grow into a multi-world game, where each world layers in a new mechanic:
- The Soldier — fights off terrifying aliens and must manage ammo; magazines regenerate over time, so a wasted shot can leave you empty at the worst moment.
- Four-directional world — threats from every side, not just left/right.
- Player music — a script would analyse the dynamics of an imported track and adapt it to the chosen world automatically.
One simple loop — slash or dodge on the beat — designed to scale into a whole family of worlds.
